Professor Robert Sang

Bob Sang has built substantial partnerships among local health economies as well as within national learning and innovation networks and the wider professional and management community. His current portfolio is focused on health systems development and public services reform and reconfiguration. Key clients include the Department of Health, where he has preferred supplier status, the Healthcare Commission (the sector regulator), and the Health Foundation. Bob also advises clients in the business sector on the patient and public engagement implications contained within the latest government reforms.

More recently Bob has worked as independent advisor to the South East Coast Strategic Health Authority on engagement in its major review of services, acting as Chair to an Expert Advisory Group including many members from the Centre for Public Scrutiny, Department of Health Policy Branch and the Independent Reconfiguration Panel.

In Higher Education Bob's principal focus is to strengthen the contribution of patients and the public to research, development, and learning, with a strong focus on achieving high levels of engagement in services and in decision-making. Bob publishes regularly on these aspects of public reform in leading journals. In addition Bob has completed four months as Special Advisor to the Health Select Committee Inquiry into Patient and Public Involvement in Health, including work on the reform of the wider system of public involvement in healthcare planning and decision-making. Bob continues to be commissioned to write policy briefs to senior levels around the issues arising from Choice, Inclusion, Involvement and Engagement for senior officials and Advisors at the Department of Health, and covering the relationships between performance management, patient and public involvement, and service development.
