Peter Mansell's injury lead to an interest in poverty and disability and the social policy issues surrounding them, and led to his working for and with the National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux Service; Scope; the Disability Resource Team; The Alliance of Disability Advice and Information Providers and the Department of Health. Peter has also been Chief Executive of both the Spinal Injuries Association and The Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation and a self employed consultant for a variety of companies including Manganese Bronze Holdings, the Greater London Assembly and The Disability Rights Commission as well as acting as Strategy Director for Yourable.com and being the Chair of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Trust.

Following injury Peter studied and gained a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Hons) and a postgraduate Diploma in Management (Henley).

Peter has been married to Karen since 1982 and has two sons; Alex aged 17 and Greg 20. They live in Beckenham in Kent.
