Minimising the risk

EFD was asked by our gold members to explore what needed to be done on recruitment, given the extent to which so many of our members are exposed to legal and reputational risk by the lack of disability competence across the recruitment industry.

We began by commissioning Kate Headley, Managing Director, The Clear Company to work with Gillian Shapiro, Consultant, Shapiro Consulting and our legal team to identify key risk points in the recruitment process in order to enable procurement departments to ask the right questions of their suppliers, and to help them look for the evidence that the supplier was willing and able to deliver good practice.

The result of this research was the development of a ‘quick reference guide' for use by procurement departments and purchasers of recruitment services.  The research showed emphatically that monitoring and review of suppliers and services is for many members where the gap currently exists. This guide is supported by ‘evidence-based' checklists to be used as required when reviewing submissions and delivery by potential suppliers
