Erith train station denied disabled access
16th December 2011

Disabled workers living near to Erith train station will now have to wait to be able to commute to London, after access funding was denied, This is London reports.
Erith station has not been granted funding to help improve disabled access at the station, after it applied to the Department for Transport back in April.
Currently, people in wheelchairs can access Kent-bound trains, however they cannot cross the platform to travel towards London as the footbridge contains steps.
At present there is no lift, therefore people with mobility problems have to take a train to Dartford in order to switch sides, adding an average 30 minutes onto journeys.
A total of 83 stations in the country were selected to receive the funding, including Bexleyheath.
"Ultimately we want to be able to improve access where it's most needed and will benefit the most passengers," a Network Rail spokeswoman told the site.
