Disabled model hired by Debenhams
7th September 2010

A disabled model has been hired by department store Debenhams to feature in its forthcoming ad campaign.
This has seen law graduate Shannon Murray, 33, taken on as the face of the fashion house's autumn/winter collection, featuring in window displays up and down the country, the London Evening Standard reports.
Speaking about the development, Ms Murray - an actress as well as model from north-west London, who was left paralysed following an accident on holiday when she was 14 - noted that she hopes her photos will help boost the confidence of other disabled people in the UK.
"We all wear clothes, we shop in stores and have money to spend. But we don't get the same inclusion in fashion that we should," she remarked.
This comes after Click Liverpool reported that groups of disabled young Liverpudlians are to be given the opportunity to volunteer at the 2012 Olympic Games, taking on roles such as tour guide, researcher and technician.
