Disabled employee finds work thanks to Shaw Trust

A disabled woman whose upper limb disorder left her with weakened hands and an inability to write more than a couple of words has found employment thanks to the Shaw Trust.

Mandy Chinn, 37, noted that prior to being "hit" with the condition, she had been something of an adventurer, backpacking alone through Alaska, sailing the Atlantic and generally leading an active life, the Courier reports.

Now, as a result of the help provided her by the organisation, Ms Chinn's financial inclusion has been boosted through her work as a house parent in a school, where she cares for children with special needs.

"Without the trust, I wouldn't be working and I would just be relying on benefits, so they have been a huge support," she remarked.

Towards the end of 2009, the national employment charity succeeded in placing its 4,000th client in Greater Manchester in a job, with Sally Burton, chief executive, noting that the recession has made it harder to find work but that this figure indicates positions are out there.ADNFCR-1716-ID-800051107-ADNFCR
