British Paralympic sailors feature in photography exhibition
31st August 2010

Disabled employees may be inspired by a new online photography exhibition from investment solutions company Skandia featuring British Paralympic sailors.
Shot by famed photographer Robert Wilson in Portland and Weymouth - where the 2012 sailing regatta will be held - the pictures feature athletes such as 25-year-old Hannah Stodel, who was born without a lower right arm.
According to Cowes, she noted that she loved being involved with "such a great project", going on to add that she hopes that the crew's disabilities "really shine through and that people see that we are just sailors at the end of the day".
Other Olympic hopefuls immortalised on film include Alex Rickham, John Robertson, Megan Pascoe, Nicky Birrell, Stephen Thomas and Helena Lucas.
Sailing was first introduced as a demonstration sport during the Atlanta Paralympic Games in 1996, later becoming a full-medal pursuit in 2000 in Sydney. Slight modifications have been made to the equipment, with a scoring system that assigns points according to levels of disability.
