ODI launches consultation on disability definition guidance in Equality Act

Businesses that may make use of the government's guidance regarding the forthcoming Equality Act are being called on by the Office for Disability Issues (ODI) to present their views as to whether this will help understanding of the definition of disability.
Drafted guidelines have been published that reflect the changes that will appear in the new legislation, introduced to replace the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).
Companies and other interested parties have until October 31st to give their opinions on whether the guidance assists in explaining how the definition operates.
Similarly, the Equality and Human Rights Commission recently brought out a guide to help promote best practice on disability employment and improve services across a number of sectors.
Due to come into force on October 1st, the act hopes to improve the protection of disabled employees and others from discrimination.
