Disabled employee service appeals for new members

9th August 2010

Boardroom

A service based in the Channel Islands that aims to find disabled employees work has issued a call for new members, stating that it requires a greater number of committed, caring and pro-active people.

Currently, Speakout - which campaigns to find work opportunities for people irrespective of their disabilities - has eight committee members and spokeswoman Rosie Baker told BBC News that it hopes to expand its board to 12.

Part of the Jersey Employment Trust (JET), Speakout is also involved in an initiative asking for an alteration in building laws so as to ensure that disabled changing facilities are universally provided.

The JET itself offers a range of support services such as employment placement, prevocational and vocational education courses, work experience opportunities and assessment and employment development planning.

Ronceray Care Home, which took on two workers via the organisation, said: "We have been so impressed with our first two employees that we have now taken a third on a part-time basis."ADNFCR-1716-ID-800017798-ADNFCR
