Disabled employees affected by council cutbacks?

9th August 2010

A number of disabled employees may be left with poorer job prospects as a result of council cutbacks that will see two voluntary projects - the Community Enterprise Support Service and the Community Business and Work (CBW) scheme - scrapped.

A total of 11 members of staff are to be axed from the two groups, which attempt to find work for both the jobless and disabled employees, the Croydon Advertiser reports.

Part-time adviser with CBW Paul Venn, 55, is now facing redundancy and noted that his organisation is supporting over 400 people and has helped 100 people find work since September 2009.

"The council is hitting frontline services like ours which is very worrying when you consider all the public sector cuts and the increasing reliance on the voluntary sector," he remarked.

Similarly, Power House 2000 in Tooting - which assists people with mental health conditions in getting back into work - has now been closed because of a lack of funding, Your Local Guardian recently reported.ADNFCR-1716-ID-800016825-ADNFCR
