Help available 'for employers with deaf and hearing impaired employees'

Employers who have deaf and hearing impaired workers can take advantage of available help and advice to assist them in retaining and recruiting such members of staff.
This is according to Vincent Donnelly, deputy principal in the Northern Irish Department for Employment and Learning's Disablement Advisory Service (DAS), who explained that expert help and guidance is on hand both for employees with disabilities and for managers.
He was responding to a question sent in to the Belfast Telegraph from a boss with a member of staff who had developed a hearing impairment and stated: "Support may include the provision of a support worker, provision of equipment and when necessary the adaptation of premises."
For example, Mr Donnelly pointed out that DAS has signed a contract with the Royal National Institute for the Deaf to supply it with technical advice about issues such as equipment needed by employees, in addition to the Access to Work programme and other support schemes.
Access to Work provides practical assistance to employers and disabled people in order to ensure that members of staff can do their job.
