Unemployment 'drives girl to suicide'
28th June 2010

An unemployed woman from Darwen has taken her own life, reportedly because of prolonged unemployment and numerous rejection letters from organisations.
According to the Blackburn Citizen, 21-year-old Antonia Victoria Harrison was depressed and frustrated about not being able to find work and had been turned down for a role at a nursery school two days before her death.
"Several things were bothering her. Not having a job, not having any money and not being able to go out with her friends," her father, Tony Harrison, remarked, adding that she was "tired and run down".
Ms Harrison - who had ten GCSEs, three A-levels and was considering becoming a teacher - was also in an uncertain relationship with long-term boyfriend Nathan Haworth.
Speaking regarding economic and financial inclusion, Oxford graduate Laurie Penny recently told the Guardian that unemployment can leave people feeling "very depressed", with levels of poverty having bad affects on mental health.
