The nominees for Mind's 2010 Champion of the Year - an award intended to recognise the efforts of individuals who have contributed to increasing mental health awareness and social inclusion, among other activities - have been announced.
They include Ruby Wax, Mark Brown of 1 in 4 magazine, Rachel Perkins of South West London and St George's Mental Health Trust, Bill Oddie, MP Mark Harper and founder of Star Wards Marion Janner.
Judging panels will determine who and what is to be named Book of the Year - with P J Davy's Nutters - mad, sad and dangerous to no-one being shortlisted - Journalist of the Year and Student Journalist of the Year, with the Mind Champion prize being decided by public vote, which opened yesterday (June 7th).
Commenting on the fact that 2009 saw "significant advances" in mental health awareness, Mind chief executive Paul Farmer said: "There is still much work to be done, and often it is the input of a number of distinct individuals that helps to change the wider public perceptions of mental health."
