A disabled employee in the north-west of England is helping others realise the assistance available when taking driving tests.

Tina Preston, from Dovecot, has created a specialist driving school that caters to people who have a disability, the Liverpool Daily Post reports.

A sudden illness affecting her immune system limited her ability to continue as an instructor for people with dyspraxia or dyslexia, but three years on she has set up Diverse Road Safety along with two colleagues.

The company is a not-for-profit organisation, which uses an adapted vehicle designed to allow the 23.5 per cent of people in Merseyside who have a disability to learn to drive.

And Ms Preston explained she is also hoping to make other disabled employees aware of the assistance that is available when dealing with bodies such as the Driving & Vehicle Licensing Agency and the Driving Standards Agency.

Last month, the Press & Journal noted that blind and disabled employees in Aberdeen were set to return to work as plans were in place for a furniture factory closed last year to reopen.ADNFCR-1716-ID-19773952-ADNFCR
