Stroke Association welcomes report
5th February 2010
A new report outlining the development in care facilities for those who have experienced a stroke has been welcomed by one charity.
The National Audit Office (NAO) review found that several areas have seen dramatic rises in efficiency, but highlighted that job services for disabled employees could be one area for further consideration.
However, media manager for the Stroke Association Andrea Lane said the survey was encouraging nonetheless.
She remarked: "We are pleased to see the improvements to stroke services in the last five years that have seen more people surviving a stroke and fewer people left to cope with the effects of severe disabilities."
According to Ms Lane, the Department of Health's FAST campaign (face, arm, speech, time to call 999) has boosted the general public's awareness of the condition.
It is important that those who have a stroke are able to receive treatment as quickly as possible, she explained, with brain scans vital to establishing a correct course of action.
The expert added that stroke patients should have access to the support they need 24 hours a day, seven days a week, regardless of where they live.
