Disabled service personnel to receive new care package

12th January 2010

Disabled employees working for the armed forces could be set to benefit from a new care package being provided by the government for those who are seriously injured while on duty.

Offered through the NHS, services under the arrangement include grant funding for individuals with mental health problems developed in combat and high-quality prosthetics for soldiers who have lost a limb.

There is also a guarantee included that will see all personnel receive an evaluation of their long-term needs before they enter civilian life.

Veterans minister Kevan Jones called the measures "groundbreaking" and said it is important to provide those who fight for their country an individually tailored service.

"Together, the [Ministry of Defence], Department of Health and armed forces charities will build on our existing good work to bring about real change to the lives of our former servicemen and women," he stated.

This follows news last month of a rehabilitation centre and gym launched by Sergeant Gavin Harvey for injured armed forces members.ADNFCR-1716-ID-19553514-ADNFCR
