Access to work to be improved in London boroughs?
4th January 2010
Efforts are being made to ensure disabled people living in the south London boroughs of Sutton and Merton have access to work.
According to the Sutton Borough Guardian, the Jobs Assistant is being launched this month.
It has been created by Danny Puresh, an entrepreneur from the area who runs disability equality practice DP Consulting.
"People are disabled not by their existing impairment but by barriers put up by society which prevent them from participating in mainstream activities," he was quoted as saying.
Mr Puresh explained that the enterprise, which will promote barrier-free policies and source employment opportunities, will help people with learning difficulties as well as mental health concerns.
Last week, the Department of Health warned that the debt caused by lack of employment in the recession could be leading to mental health problems such as stress and depression for many people in the UK, with half of Britons having been worried about money last year.
