Disabled employment scheme commended by care provider
30th June 2009

A new cross-government initiative to improve the employment opportunities for those with learning disabilities has been backed by a Craegmoor Healthcare director.
Chief executive officer Ted Smith commented that he hoped the Learning Disability Employment Strategy will allow a number of people flexible positions, training and any additional support they might require.
He said: "Craegmoor believes that all people with learning disabilities should be allowed the opportunity to live as independently as possible and participate in day-to-day life - this undoubtedly includes the opportunity to work."
An excellent job of catering to the employment needs of physically disabled people had been achieved in the country but it was time to boost the openings for others, Mr Smith added.
The general public, along with employers, would be wrong to make assumptions about the willingness to work of those affected by a learning disability, he remarked.
Earlier this month, care services minister Phil Hope remarked that the project would enable Britain to benefit from a "huge talent pool" that is currently being under utilised.
