EFD looks forward to a more accessible London

13th May 2010

EFD today welcomed the commitment to accessible transport made by the Mayor of London.

The Mayor’s Transport Strategy, published yesterday, sets out the Major’s plans for transport in the capital until 2031. It mentions that while some stations and buses are more accessible, “more is needed” to ensure London is accessible to all.

Commenting on the Strategy, EFD’s Chief Executive Susan Scott-Parker said: “I welcome the recognition that an accessible transport system is crucial to make London an accessible city.

“Disabled Londoners and visitors need to be able to get around independently so they can contribute to the cultural and economic life of London. Without accessible transport, businesses find it harder to employ disabled people and serve disabled customers.

“This Strategy highlights that staff training on disability is crucial to getting it right. Staff need to be able to help passengers with both visible and non-visible disabilities who may need assistance.

“EFD looks forward to working with TfL to implement this Strategy, which will need appropriate funding to be the success all those involved want it to be."
