ICT suppliers gain disability confidence
24th June 2008
EFD’s Business Taskforce on Accessible Technology (BTAT) held its first formal get together with key players from the ICT, Information and Service Management industries on 17 June in London. The evening was hosted by Dining with a Difference and sponsored by the London Development Agency.
EFD launched the taskforce in January, to help members address the challenges of providing accessible technology for disabled employees and customers.
Guests including Oracle, Microsoft, Accenture, Serco, Pegasystems and Nuance, were encouraged to think about how their own systems, processes and products included or excluded disabled people.
The event demonstrated the need for an Accessibility Business Case to improve disability confidence and to address common misconceptions around delivering accessible IT.
Susan Scott-Parker, CEO of Employers’ Forum on Disability said: “We know our members are concerned about their ability to deliver accessible technology solutions to their employees and customers.”
“Over the coming year, we will explore ways of measuring accessibility performance and identify the tools to help them remove internal and external barriers”.
“We are very encouraged by the positive response from the ICT industry to our initiative and we are hopeful of forging some practical partnerships in the coming year”.
