InterContinental Hotels continues commitment to accessibility

23rd November 2007

InterContinental Hotels Group has, as part of its continuing commitment to accessibility for disabled guests, installed ceiling track hoists in two further UK hotels.

IHG, which was joint winner of the Employers Forum Disability Standard Diamond Award for Recruitment in November, has already installed ceiling track hoists at three of its London properties.

These specialised facilities are now also provided at Holiday Inn Birmingham and Holiday Inn Cardiff City Centre.

Christopher Rawstron, vice president operations UK and Ireland, said: "We are excited about our sustained development in this arena and feel confident that as the only large hotel chain to offer ceiling track hoists in a number of its hotels, we are now better positioned to welcome a wider range of disabled guests. Furthermore, the hoists are a point of difference, which will undoubtedly attract more conference business, especially from those public sector organisations with a duty to promote disability equality."

Susan Scott-Parker, chief executive of EFD says: "I am extremely pleased that IHG have gone to great lengths to accommodate more disabled customers within their hotels. In doing so they have demonstrated a commitment to disability confidence with great recognition for the business case and I look forward to seeing more examples of best practice from them in the future."
