EFD responds to Remploy statement

29th November 2007

In response to Work and Pensions Secretary Peter Hain's statement to the House of Commonsearlier today, Employers' Forum on Disability (EFD) offers the Government full support overRemploy modernisation.

EFD supports the objective of getting more disabled people into mainstream employment andbelieves the Remploy changes accurately match the changing aspirations of disabled people.

Susan Scott-Parker, EFD chief executive says: “Disabled people's expectations are changing.Government and employers have to work together to make sustainable change happen.

“Although we appreciate that change may be unsettling for many disabled people who have beenemployed in a Remploy factory long-term, we hope that Mr Hain's statement sends out themessage to critics that these changes will go ahead.

“Our members recognise the value that disabled employees bring to their organisations andthere are clear benefits for disabled employees themselves to be employed in sustainablemainstream employment.”
