3rd December 2007
Employers' Forum on Disability (EFD) would like to congratulate the two members who won awards at this year's RADAR People of the Year 2007.
RADAR's People of the Year Human Rights Awards is the only event in Europe that honours individuals and organisations that have made a significant contribution to furthering the human rights of disabled people.
InterContinentalHotels Group (IHG), EFD Gold members, received the Employment Award.
Christopher Rawstron, Vice President Operations UK and Ireland, said: "Being a global hospitality business, Intercontinental Hotels Group has one of the UK'smost diverse workforces - it's something we are very proud of.
"While it's our policy to get the right person for the job, disabled people are typically committed and loyal to their jobs - so we are very pleased to have them onboard. IHG is attracting great staff to our fantastic teams - recruiting disabled people allows us to access a wide and rich pool of talent."
Also on the night, Sussex Police picked up the Disability Equality Scheme Award.
Geoff Williams,Deputy Chief Constable of Sussex said, "To be recognised among such a strong field is a remarkable accolade and one that Sussex Police is very proud of. Winning this award is an acknowledgement of our approach to engage with, and learn from, people right across Sussex so we can do our job better.
"I am convinced that by collaborating with communities and partners, as we did here with disabled people and East Sussex Disability Association, we can look confidently to the future. This marks a significant milestone against our twin objectives of delivering services and a working environment that meet people's needs".
In addition the Changing Faces Young Person's Council, whose chief executive is EFD associate James Partridge, were awarded the Young Person's Award.
