EFD announces new international associate
27th August 2007
Employers' Forum on Disability is delighted to announce the appointment of a new international associate.
Professor Paul Steven Miller is director of the University of Washington's Disability Studies programme, and his appointment demonstrates EFD's growing commitment to positioning disability confidence as a global objective.
Professor Miller is a member of the board of Mental Disability Rights International and he is also an active member of the American Bar Association's Labor and Employment Section.
Professor Miller says: "I am extremely pleased to have been asked and accepted the post of international associate for EFD.
"I am looking forward to working closely with EFD to raise awareness of the business case for disability confidence in the US, and globally."
EFD chief executive Susan Scott-Parker says: "It is of great significance that we can announce Professor Miller as an international associate.
"He joins our UK based associates as an expert in his field but on an international scale.
"We very much look forward to drawing on Professor Miller's experience and expertise in the future."
Scott-Parker recently presented the business case on disability confidence to an International Labour Organisation employer gathering in Hanoi, Vietnam, and a business breakfast in Melbourne, Australia.
Absa/Barclays and Total recently helped to launch a South African employers' network on disability, which has licensed EFD's ‘Welcoming disabled customers' for the African market. The Australian employers' network is also launching a version of this publication.
EFD is the UK partner on the European Union's Optiwork project, set up to integrate disabled people into the labour market and has offered expert advice to NGOs in Hungary, Lebanon and Slovenia as well as to the UN.
