Employers' Forum on Disability scoop mental health award

14th November 2006

Employers' Forum on Disability (EFD) has won a joint award for work highlighting mental health in the workplace.

The employers' organisation was one of eight to receive the Special Recognition Award at Shaw Trust's STAR Awards at the Café Royal last week.

Representatives from EFD members BT, BUPA, GlaxoSmithKline, HSBC, Merrill Lynch, Unum Provident and business-led CSR charity Business in the Community were also on hand to accept the award from Shaw Trust Chief Executive Ian Charlesworth.

The accolade marks Employers' Forum on Disability's crucial role in the Shaw Trust's mental health campaign, which resulted in the report Mental Health: The Last Workplace Taboo.

The report, released earlier this year presented new research, taken from talking to the directors of 550 UK businesses, about mental health in the workplace.

Ian Charlesworth said: "Our campaign partners' backing and active input not only made this much-needed research possible, it will also help business to shape policies and a support network which will benefit employees for years to come."

Niccola Swan, deputy chief executive of EFD said: "We are delighted about this award.

"Mental health is an extremely important theme for employers and we are very pleased to have had the opportunity to work with Shaw Trust on this."

Other members of Employers' Forum on Disability to receive recognition at the STAR Awards included HBOS, Best Employer over 250 staff, and West Midlands Police, for Partner Organisation.
