New TV Opportunities for Disabled Talent
18th July 2008
Six disabled people are likely to join Channel 4's Diversity Production Training Scheme, following a tough selection process. Candidates for the scheme have already attended Career Lab Days, where they met inspirational speakers, attended three genre sessions, did a written exercise and a one minute "pick me" video. Independent production companies will now interview them. There are 18 places on the scheme, 6 for disabled people.
Meanwhile Five has offered its first work experience placement to a disabled individual who hasn't previously had paid work experience in the broadcasting industry. To support the placement Five has delivered disability awareness training to employees whose department is hosting the placement.
They've also put in place dedicated mentors from within the business and HR department. To attract more disabled applicants to all their job vacancies Five is placing long running advertisements in both the online and print Disability Now and Equality Britain.
