Telephone surgeries
Legal surgeries with Bela Gor for EFD members
The Equality Act 2010 has brought together 116 pieces of legislation including the Disability Discrimination Act and made some significant changes to discrimination law and disability.
We know that our members have questions about what the law means for them and so from January 2012 EFD Legal Director and expert in disability law, Bela Gor will run free regular in-house telephone surgeries where she can answer your questions on:
- What has changed in the definition of disability.
- What the introduction of indirect disability discrimination will mean for your organisation.
- What the new provisions restricting pre-employment health questions mean for your recruitment practices and processes.
- What the term 'reasonable adjustment' means.
- How to implement reasonable adjustment policies and make reasonable adjustments to sickness absence, performance management and redeployment policies and procedures.
- What you need to do to ensure your procedures are fair and don't discriminate against disabled employees when restructuring or making redundancies.
- What the courts and tribunals have decided in the latest cases.
The surgeries will be valuable for Lawyers, HR & Diversity Managers, Trade Union Representatives or anyone who has questions about the law and disability. Calls are limited to 20 minutes and must be booked in advance by emailing events@efd.org.uk or by telephoning 020 7403 3020.
Surgery dates:
- 14 May 2012 – 2pm to 5pm
- 18 June 2012 – 2pm to 5pm

Disabled employee network telephone surgeries for gold members
Disabled employee networks are an effective and powerful method of sharing disability best practice. Such networks have proliferated in companies as business recognises that getting it right for disabled people means getting it right for everyone. A network may act as a consultative group when looking to improve accessibility, or simply be a tool for disabled staff to share their views. A network can also offer vital support to disabled employees from their peers, as coping mechanisms and top tips are shared.
Kate Nash OBE, an EFD associate, hosts a regular in-house telephone surgery for Disabled employee network managers on the last Monday of every month. Kate is the author of Disabled Employee Networks: a Practical Guide.
Surgery dates:
- 27 February 2012
- 26 March 2012
- 23 April 2012
- 21 May 2012
During the course of the day, Kate can provide individual one-to-one sessions of up to 1 hour. Please indicate your preferred time when booking.
This telephone surgery is free to EFD Gold members only and must be booked in advance by emailing events@efd.org.uk or by telephoning 020 7403 3020.
