After hours: Visibility – How important is it to be seen?
14th September 2011, 6:00pm - 9:00pm, BT Auditorium, London, EC1A
Do people have a duty to reveal their differences in the workplace?
Do you owe it to your community to stand up and be counted even if this makes your own working life more difficult?
Do some differences make you more attractive to potential employers whilst others are off-putting? Should the law prevent this?
What about people who cannot hide their difference? Must they flaunt it?
Do people believe you are different when they can't see its true?
After Hours, sponsored by BT
This free after-work networking event centres around a panel of expert speakers discussing a hotly debated topic.
This debate will look beyond disability; speakers from across the diversity strands will argue their case about the impact of being visibly different in the workplace.
- Should Christian staff be able to display their faith at work by wearing crucifixes?
- Are burkas acceptable in the workplace?
- Should women wear make-up to make the most out of their 'natural advantage'?
- Do LGBT people owe it to their communities to come out at work?
As well as hearing the views of leading diversity experts there will be ample opportunity for you to have your questions answered and for you to meet with other EFD members.
