Full day masterclass: Disability Standard media masterclass

This is a past event

30th June 2009, 3:00pm - 17:30pm, BBC White City, Hammersmith, London

  • Are you looking for new ways to get positive media coverage for your organisation?
  • Have you considered promoting your organisation’s work on disability, but are not sure how best to manage the risks?
  • Would you like expert advice from BBC journalists and press office staff on how to turn disability good practice into positive coverage?

EFD is offering media and communications professionals working for Disability Standard participants an exclusive media masterclass on media and disability.

The masterclass will be on Tuesday June 30, from 2pm to 5.30pm, at the BBC’s White City offices. It will be chaired by Simon Minty, a Partner and Director of Minty & Friend and EFD Associate.

Speakers include:

  • Tessa Machett and Fiona Willams, BBC CBeebies press office, who managed the media enquiries about Cerrie Burnell, the CBeebies presenter.
  • Geoff Adams-Spink, Age & Disability Correspondent for BBC News, covering issues of relevance to older and disabled people for radio, television and the BBC News website.

Places are limited for this event and only available to media and communications staff working for Disability Standard participants. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, with EFD members getting priority access.

If you have any queries or questions about this event, please contact Phoebe White, EFD's Senior Events Co-Ordinator, email phoebe.white@staging.efd.org.uk or tel 020 7089 2421.

Why attend?

One in three people are disabled, or close to someone who is. With the right support, your disabled customers and colleagues with a positive story to tell can help your organisation’s positioning.

The masterclass is your chance to:

  • Hear from journalists and peers about the media potential for disability.
  • Find out how to turn good practice on disability into positive coverage.
  • Understand more about disability and gain the confidence to talk to the media about how disability affects their organisation.

Who should attend?

Media, PR and communications professionals working for organisations that are participating in the Disability Standard. Not sure if your employer is taking part in the Disability Standard? See a full list of Disability Standard participating organisations here
