Telephone Tutorial: PDF accessibility master class

This is a past event

22nd April 2009, 3:30pm - 4pm

PDF's are one of the mostly commonly used on-line formats. However, for many disabled people it is often difficult and sometimes impossible to access PDF documents. So how do you ensure your PDFs are accessible?

Free to gold members. Please indicate your gold status when completing your on-line booking form to receive your free place. Not sure if you are a gold member? Click here to see a complete and updated list of our gold members.

Disabled employees and customers frequently face barriers when trying to access PDF documents. For example, visually impaired people using screen reader or zoom text technology are unable to navigate a PDF document in a logical and usable way. Similar issues are encountered by people who use keyboard rather than mouse to navigate a screen.

This session is designed to dispel the myth that PDF's are inaccessible by providing an introduction to creating accessible Word documents in PDF format. Issues relating to Excel and PowerPoint may be covered in future sessions.

The session will include live demonstrations and takes into account the access requirements of participants. Please contact the training & events team with any specific questions about access requirements at events@efd.org.uk

The session will be led by Andrew Kirkpatrick, Senior Product Manager for Accessibility at Adobe Systems in the USA.  Andrew has significant expertise in accessibility standards and has defined Adobe's accessibility strategy and policies.

Andrew is a frequent speaker and writer on accessibility standards and compliance and he blogs about accessibility at http://blogs.adobe.com/accessibility.  The session will also be attended by members of our ‘Business Taskforce on Accessible Technology'.
