Business Taskforce on Accessible Technology

In January 2008 we launched the worlds only Business Taskforce onAccessible Technology (BTAT). BTAT was created because the technologywhich should liberate talent and productivity makes it unnecessarily difficultto recruit and retain good employees, and to do business with millions ofdisabled and older customers.
Our vision is to make accessibility and usability as fundamental to ITas security is now. Our members have been working to define best practicearound accessibility so that internal systems and external services enablerather than exclude disabled people. Webelieve that it is a business imperative to make every employee moreproductive. From January 2010 all EFD members will have access to EFD's Accessibility Maturity Model (AMM), a world first tool for measuring and improving the accessibility of ICT systems, products, services and processes.
As our members improve their own disability confidence with regards toICT, they are demanding higher levels of accessibility in the products theyprocure from international suppliers. We are now working collaboratively andproactively with the IT industry to help them develop more inclusive workingpractices for their own disabled staff and helping them to maximise thepotential to be market leaders in the delivery of accessible ICT.
